Freelance marketplace Fiverr’s Small Business Needs Index reveals that Australian entrepreneurs are in desperate need of ecommerce expertise.
According to the index, demand for digital retail support saw the highest increase where “Shopify Experts” has seen a 176 per cent increase, followed by Business Name experts, up by 89 per cent and Business Plan experts up by 29 per cent.
According to Peggy de Lange, VP of International Expansion at Fiverr, “Navigating the digital world for the first time is daunting, and new business entrepreneurs can sometimes be overwhelmed by the amount of specialised expertise they may not have.”
As COVID forced many brick and mortars to shut up shop, and saw a dramatic shift to online shopping, there has been an increased global interest in developing a “digital storefront”.
Many global searches were related to the process of creating a digital storefront, including:
- Amazon virtual assistant up 778 per cent
- Shopify store design up 302 per cent
- Shopify sales funnel up 103 per cent
- Wix site design up 102 per cent
- WordPress theme customisation up 63 per cent.
According to Nhung Mason, Managing Director of Accenture’s Retail & Consumer Practice, the two key factors that customers are seeking are convenience and speed.
“Once a customer experiences that ability through one click or a couple of clicks to be able to make a purchase, if that order is fulfilled on time, in full, as expected, then that’s a very sticky experience”, says Mason.
Business owners are looking to incorporate the digital skills required to keep up with consumer expectations, and are turning to new technologies to do so.
Apps and platforms that assist with business workflows have seen an increase globally, where searches for the automated marketing platform GetResponse have increased by 91 per cent. This is followed by an increasing interest in web site builder plugins, mobile payment services and customisable design frameworks.
