Our recent webcast on privacy, customer experience, and user consent attracted an unusually diverse audience, across finance, technology, marketing, regulatory compliance.

After the event one of the participants, EY Oceania Customer Practice Director Adam Fraser has created a privacy health check to help participants in the event to understand where they sit on a maturity scale.  And now that survey is available to our readers.

This is a shorter version of a more complete survey, but it’s a good place to start

According to Fraser, “EY designed a data privacy health check to provide a high-level assessment of an enterprise’s approach and maturity in the area of data privacy. The questions straddle a range of areas related to data privacy (e.g. data governance, customer experience, technology capability) which should help an enterprise think about the issues they need to consider in this wide-ranging area and how they are currently performing”

The survey is based on 20 questions, with a minimum score of 20 and a maximum score of 100, When you complete the survey you will receive a score that ranks your business across four different possible segments (beginner, average, mature and advanced).

The participants in the webcast, which featured Fraser, as well as Franklin Covey Chief Information Security Officer, Blaine Carter, SAP Growth and Innovation Evangelist Aarron Spinley, and NSW Privacy Commissioner Samantha Gavel discussed a range of issues including;

  • Consumer attitudes to online privacy
  • The changing privacy landscape
  • The outlook and likely impact of new regulation
  • Implementing a consent infrastructure
  • Competitive advantage for brands that earn the trust of customers.

In recent years the issue of data privacy has become more important as concerns grow about how all that data is being used, and whether it is really providing the benefits that would constitute a fair value exchange. And consumers aren’t the only ones who are worried. Regulators around the world are watching and acting!

It’s a topic we expect will gather much more attention in the months and years ahead.
