He may have left the building, but the dream of Marketo founder (and ex CEO) Phil Fernandez to help lift the contemporary capabilities of marketers via links to the University community has survived the transition of the company to new ownership.

His successor Steve Lucas used the company’s conference in San Francisco last week to announce that Marketo is releasing free training courses for all marketers via Marketo University.

The company also announced a partnership with GreenFig University, a micro university offering micro degrees in applied business science, to develop and deliver a digital marketing course to students and professionals across the United States.

Both initiatives underscore Marketo’s commitment to ensuring all marketers, regardless of their background or level of expertise, have the resources they need to succeed in what Makreto calls the Engagement Economy.

“Opening Marketo University to all marketers is a major milestone in ensuring that everyone has access to the knowledge needed to master the most innovative platform in marketing,” according to Lucas.

“We are thrilled to partner with GreenFig University to get these tools in the hands of tomorrow’s marketing leaders, doing all that we can to help aspiring marketers progress and achieve in their careers.”

This is the second major education announcement that Marketo made this year, following the release of its redesigned curriculum, new courses, and new certification exam in March.

The New Marketo University

Seven free, self-paced training modules from Marketo University are available now, which cover everything from setting up a Marketo instance to building engaging content. An additional six modules will be released next month, with more than 35 modules planned for release by the end of 2017.

To access the courses, marketers can simply visit the Marketo University section of Marketo’s website. Previously, Marketo training was only available to its customers and partners.

Each training module typically contains four core components to help any marketer, regardless of background or skill level, learn engagement marketing concepts and see how they are executed through the Marketo Engagement Platform.

“As more organisations identify Marketo as the best platform to help them drive digital engagement, current and future customers have been demanding greater access to our curriculum,” said Toby Emerson, VP, education services, Marketo.

“The new Marketo University training program has been carefully developed by our experts to introduce digital marketing concepts and provide easy-to-follow instruction on how to use Marketo, helping us meet the growing demand for Marketo-certified marketers.”

Marketo’s instructor-led courses, which offer deep-dive and hands-on training in the Marketo Engagement Platform, will still be available through Marketo University for a fee, as will the Marketo Certified Expert Exam, and newly added Marketo Specialisations available to certified experts to extend their Marketo certification.
