The best place to work in Australia is a bank, according to LinkedIn’s annual list of the top companies to work for, which has the big four atop its latest leaderboard.

According to LinkedIn, Westpac is the top company to work for in Australia, followed by NAB, ANZ and CBA. Construction, consulting and tech companies fill out the top ten.

LinkedIn said it scrapes billions of data points from its platform to find which businesses are generating the most interest from jobseekers as well as which companies are holding on to talent. The list does not include organisations outside the private sector.

In a company blog post LinkedIn News editor, Natalie MacDonald explained the criteria, “We analyse Australia members’ anonymised actions across four main pillars: interest in the company, engagement with the company’s employees, job demand and employee retention.”

LinkedIn’s top 25 companies to work for in 2019 are:

1 Westpac Group 14 CBRE
2 National Australia Bank 15 Wesfarmers
3 ANZ 16 BHP
4 Commonwealth Bank 17 Colliers International
5 Lendlease 18 JLL
6 PwC Australia 19 Qantas
7 CIMIC 20 Aurecon
8 Deloitte Australia 21 MinterEllison
9 Salesforce 22 AGL Energy
10 Amazon 23 Herbert Smith Freehills
11 Woolworths 24 IAG
12 KPMG Australia 25 Allens
13 EY

The two tech companies in the top 10, Salesforce (9th) and Amazon (10th) did not feature in the list at all last year. This year’s list is a similar makeup to 2018, although banks have displaced consulting firms at the very top.

In 2018 PwC, Deloitte, and KPMG were all in the top four but this year have fallen to 6th, 8th and 12th respectively.

The Linkedin list does not disclose full details on the rankings but does note some of the standout employee benefits for each company.

Westpac, for example, offers 20 days of support leave per year for employees impacted by domestic and family violence, NAB offers paid volunteer days, and ANZ encourages employees to express their cultural heritage, according to Linkedin.
