Online graphic design company Canva has taken out the top spot in LinkedIn’s inaugural list of the top 25 Australian startups to work for.
The list is comprised of companies from different backgrounds such as retail, financial services, food production and furniture.
This is the first time the professional social media site has curated a list for the top Australian startups. Earlier this year, LinkedIn curated a list for the best companies in Australia to work for.
According to LinkedIn, the ranking is informed by the “billions of actions taken by more than 575 million professionals on LinkedIn, revealing the 25 most-wanted startups by professionals.”
Eligible companies are privately held, seven years old or younger and have at least 100 employees. LinkedIn evaluated key factors for ranking including interest in the company, employment growth, engagement with employees, job interest and retention.

Matt Tindale, country manager LinkedIn ANZ said, “The inaugural 2018 LinkedIn Top Startups Australia list surfaces the young Australian companies attracting attention and top talent whilst disrupting industries as they gather momentum.”
Tindale notes the top two companies — Canva and Expert360 — are both founded by women, Melanie Perkins and Bridget Loudon.
“It is also great to see such diversity in the list. It is fascinating that the list doesn’t just feature tech players, but includes a mix of companies from diverse sectors such as graphic design, consultancy, furniture, financial services, marketing, as well as food and beverage,” Tindale said.
