Digital is making life is harder for small businesses than it was 10 years ago. Rather than place an ad in the yellow pages, they now need an online presence which for many is still in the too hard or too expensive basket.

Domain registrar and web hosting company GoDaddy is targeting this market with its new product, Website Builder. The company is targeting sole traders and businesses with fewer than five employees who just want a cheap, professional online presence that they can set and forget.

Website Builder lets businesses design a mobile-optimised website capability with an integrated set of marketing and ecommerce tools to help local small businesses and is billed monthly. Prices vary depending on the feature set of the website.

In an effort to save time, Australian SMBs can simply type in their sector eg hairdresser or tradie and Website Builder’s smart learning system produces a near-complete website, pre-filled with relevant sections and professional images optimised for a desktop computer and for mobile devices.

They can then tweak the pre-populated sites to change images, fonts and colour schemes.

Shaan Tahu, CEO of small business ICU Signage Solutions, said he created his website using the tool in under an hour. “As a small business owner my time is precious, and whilst I knew I needed to improve my online footprint, it felt like a dauting task,” Tahu said.

“As many of my customers are also on the go, I like that it’s mobile-friendly and integrated with my social pages so it can be viewed anywhere, anytime. Since launching my new website, I have seen more enquiries through the website and have received some great feedback too.”

“As a global organisation, GoDaddy is passionate about empowering SMBs to manage their business needs,” said Andrew Low Ah Kee, GoDaddy Executive Vice President of International. “Small businesses see a website as a crucial tool for driving awareness for a brand, meaning Website Builder’s flexibility and smart-learning system can help customers reach their audiences further supporting the thriving Australian SMB landscape.”

GoDaddy views small business as a big opportunity for its digital product offering and has a major marketing campaign on the way to target the sector.

“GoDaddy’s new Website Builder marks an exciting new era of smart website creation and management for Australian entrepreneurs and small businesses by giving them real control of their digital identities,” said Tara Commerford, managing director Australia and New Zealand.

“This new approach is unique as it helps customers reach their audiences and drive strong business results and customer insights, all from the convenience of their mobile phone.”
