This weekend one lucky Reddit user was surprised with a giant box of gifts courtesy of her generous secret santa, who just so happened to be Microsoft founder Bill Gates.

Since joining the Reddit gift exchange in 2013, Gates has used the annual tradition to bring joy to a random internet user and to popularise one of the causes he is committed to. In 2016 the lucky Redditor was Aerrix and the cause was non-profit, Code.org.

Judging by Aerrix’s post detailing her discovery that her secret Santa was one of the world’s richest men, it’s fair to say Gates didn’t disappoint.

“So then I get the box open and there’s just bubble wrap EVERYWHERE, but under the first layer I see a picture…and my jaw. Just. Drops,” Aerrix wrote in a post on Reddit Gifts.

Gates clearly put some thought into his present selection, referring to Aerrix’s Reddit profile. In between plenty of glitter and bubble wrap, the gifts included an Xbox One Minecraft Edition, NES Classic Edition, personalised mittens, slippers and various Zelda merchandise including a photo frame complete with Gates photoshopped into a Christmas family photo.

The box of goodies included a Cajun cook book which was inscribed with a handwritten message: “Aerrix, since you’re originally from Louisiana and miss your Uncle’s Cajun cooking, I thought you might enjoy trying some of the recipes from this cook book.”

As per tradition, the gift included a donation made in Aerrix’s name to a charity chosen by Gates. This year he made a donation to Code.org, a non-profit dedicated to expanding computer science education.

Aerrix wrote, “I’m just blown away by his generosity, which went even further than all these gifts because he submitted a donation to code.org in my name to give more students the chance to learn computer science, which is AWESOME because it’s something near and dear to my heart as my husband is a programmer and my brother has a degree in computer science!”
